Child of bluegrass Rowan now leads
February 6, 2004

Peter Rowan is the perfect headliner for next weekend's Joe Val Bluegrass Festival. From the genesis of jam-grass music 30 years ago with Jerry Garcia and Old & In The Way, to his recent soulful Kingston-goes-Appalachia experiment on the CD "Reggaebilly,'' Rowan has personalized and expanded bluegrass with rare skill and vision. Have a hankering for traditional bluegrass? Rowan's also your man. He learned the straight stuff directly from the master: In 1963, at age 21, he became one of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys. North West Bluegrass News -- Peter Rowan & Tony Rice With Bryn and Billy Bright - According to onstage comments from Peter Rowan, it had been five years since he’d last performed at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall. Tony Rice acknowledged, with an affirming nod that it had been more than 20 years since he’d last appeared at this venerable theater. Interestingly, the Music hall was ground zero in the development of ‘Dawg-Music’, the hybrid offspring of string jazz and bluegrass co-developed by Tony Rice with David Grisman & Co.  Click Here for More

ROWAN BROTHERS
Chris & Lorin Rowan
Guitarists/Singer/Songwriters

The music of Chris & Lorin Rowan encompasses their finger pickin' American acoustic roots in folk, complementing their clear two-part sibling harmonies in the tradition of The Louvin' Brothers and the Everly Brothers. Their songs are filled with intriguing, often-heartfelt lyrics and haunting melodies. Chris and Lorin were originally signed to Columbia Records in the '70s by music mogul Clive Davis, produced by mandolin master David Grisman. As special guests on the record, Jerry Garcia played steel guitar, along with Bill Kreutzman on drums. Furthermore, they've also recorded several albums as a trio with eldest brother Peter, most recently their 2002 CD release "Crazy People", a mixture of acoustic swing/bluegrass with a Caribbean flavor. Recently, Lorin wrote the title track of country artist Ricky Skaggs' Grammy Award winning gospel/bluegrass CD, "Soldier of the Cross".
